Steve graduated from Sydney University with first class honours in 1980. Through his training and for four years subsequent to graduation he worked in the Government Architects Branch of the NSW Public Works Department, gaining experience in a wide range of building types and projects, including public health buildings, tertiary colleges, and schools. Along with some specialist work on the acoustic environment of school buildings, he was the Project Architect for the design stages of a number of new and remodelled school buildings.
Steve has a special interest in church buildings, and has acted as a design consultant for several church congregations, seeking to offer creative solutions within the often limited budgets of these community groups. After leaving Public Works he trained and then was ordained as a Baptist minister, and has been active in a wide variety of community service activities. He is currently chaplain to one of the National Rugby League clubs, and coordinates sports chaplaincy across NSW. These areas of involvement have given him particular insights into people and their needs, which he then seeks to apply to any design project.
Commitment to community endeavours has particularly equipped Steve for involvement in the planning and development of community centres, child care centres, and church buildings with a strong community focus. Along with all the architects at Aibee, he is equipped to handle all stages of the design, documentation and construction process.
