Mardi Community Centre
Aibee Architects were approached by Wyong Council to provide architectural services for a community centre located in a young residential area at Mardi. The centre is located in the midst of dwellings, on a prominent site in the development.
The brief was to provide a welcoming facility that would allow the community to gather and engage with a variety of programs, activities and celebrations, including programs initiated by a resident community worker.
Design Solution
Aibee Architects worked closely with the community services section of Council in community consultations and planning meetings. The design of the building, facilities provided, and arrangement of spaces were all adjusted to reflect the expressed needs of the community.
The design also reflects the character of the wider Central Coast area, with shapes and colours reflecting sun, surf and sky. The foyer is strongly expressed externally, and serves as both reception area and gathering space – a common lack in community facilities of this type. The two halls have strong relationships with the outdoors, to provide more flexible use for community groups.
The achieved outcome is a positive reflection of the value of architect, client and community working together.
